UK Green Building Council

The UK-GBC work to inspire best practice and leadership, influence government and policy, and impact their members’ sustainability performance. They are the leading UK body on sustainability in the construction sector yet their brand and it’s core values were not being communicated effectively online.

We were overjoyed to get the opportunity to support the UK-GBC, an inspirational organisation really effecting positive change in the building and construction industry.

They approached us to get clarity over their brand online through a complete digital overhaul, and re-position themselves as thought leaders with a view to increasing member engagement.

The challenge

UK-GBC’s old website was poorly designed both from a user experience and visual point of view, however the content on there was industry leading. Key content was very difficult to find so their members weren’t able to get the full benefits of being a member and accessing the great content the UK-GBC produce. They also wanted to strengthen their offering to their members by extending the functionality on the website. UK-GBC are thought leaders in their field and their website is the main hub of information for their members and the wider public, so the solution needed to make the most of their excellent content and re-establish them as a world class organisation.

Our solution

Our solution was to design a website which is engaging and accessible with a clean design which highlights the 3 key aims of the organisation – Influence, Inspire, Impact. A full bleed hero area, and panelled content on the homepage answered UKGBC’s brief of putting their content centre stage – really demonstrating all the different ways they are engaged in the issues around making the construction industry more sustainable.

We prefer to take a user led approach to building websites, and with their focus on making a better experience for members, this suited the needs of UKGBC down to the ground. So from the build perspective, it was important to create a structure which is easily navigable, allowing site users to spend more time on the content they want to see.


The impact

Immediately after launch the results were obvious, there was 1000% increase in site visits with praise coming at the new sites ease of use.  People were staying longer and exploring more.  Overall a resounding success and we continue the relationship by building on what we have already achieved.
